In the 1980s, Anh lived in New York City with a dream of starting her own clothing design company. She was told no one would buy her clothes because she was an Asian woman. Forty-five years later, she proudly founded Anh55, a brand that bears her name and the year she was born—a testament to resilience, vision, and the power of believing in oneself.
-
Women over 40. They are the achievers—the leaders, decision-makers, and innovators shaping industries and communities. They have lived, accomplished, and influenced the world in countless ways. Representing the largest demographic segment in the U.S., they make up one-third of the population and drive 25% of the $200 billion women’s apparel market. They are bold, powerful, and unapologetically badass—yet the fashion industry has overlooked them for too long. Anh55 exists to change that.
-
USA: Anh and her husband Philip, an instructor at RISD, lead the design process, with Philip making the patterns and first samples, using couture features and crafting standards that highlight and complement a woman’s natural shape. Our skilled seamstresses—local community members from Boston, Dorchester, Quincy, and Worcester—bring these designs to life. Many are new Americans from Southeast Asia, where sewing, weaving, and embroidery are deeply rooted cultural traditions.
Overseas: Every Anh55 label is hand-embroidered and woven by women refugees and ethnic minorities in Southeast Asia, India and Africa. By 2030, we aim to have 30 refugee groups worldwide contributing to our label-making team. Committed to ethical fashion, Anh ensures all employees—both in the U.S. and in refugee camps abroad—receive fair wages and essential support services, empowering them to build brighter futures.

At Anh55, beauty, environmental and social impact, and economic empowerment for refugee women are at the heart of everything we do. We champion mindful consumption, encouraging responsible buying habits. Our clients invest in timeless pieces, wear them longer, buy less, and give back by donating—embracing a wardrobe that is both elegant and purposeful.

Our clothing is proudly made in Massachusetts, U.S.A., with every piece reflecting our commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Our label tags are handcrafted both locally in Massachusetts and in refugee camps across Southeast Asia, creating opportunities and preserving cultural artistry.
